Leading Industrial and Automotive Companies To Gather for the 2nd Deterministic Ethernet Forum in Vienna, Austria

Vienna, Austria, April 12, 2017

On April 28, the second Deterministic Ethernet Forum will take place in Vienna, Austria. The event is hosted by IIC, OPC Foundation and the OpenFog Consortium. Avnu and IEEE will be present as lead consortia exhibitors. Again the forum is gathering renowned speakers to discuss the development and application of Deterministic Ethernet in the industrial and automotive sectors.

Some major milestones in the evolution of industrial and automotive networking were passed or will be passed in 2017: Major industrial automation vendors set to release TSN-enabled products; A first switch chip featuring TSN functionality is out on the market and on the road in series vehicles; Level 3 autonomous driving based on a Deterministic Ethernet solution will be on the road this year; Industrial Internet Consortium’s TSN testbed is live with wide support from leading industrial companies.

To further this evolution of Deterministic Ethernet as the open standard networking solution in the industrial and automotive domain, companies like B&R, Intel, Audi, Cisco, GE, Infineon, Magna, Nebbiolo Technologies, Renesas, Bosch Rexroth, Schneider, NXP and TTTech support the forum and will give insights during keynotes and panel discussions. The complete agenda is available at www.de-forum.com/agenda.

Supporting Statements

IEEE: Janos Farkas, Sr. Specialist of Deterministic Networking, Ericsson Research

“The IEEE 802.1 WG and IEEE-SA are delighted to be a lead exhibitor at the Deterministic Ethernet Forum. The IEEE 802.1 Time-Sensitive Networking toolset is the basis of reliable Ethernet-based networks with low packet loss, bounded delay, and low packet delay variation.”

IIC: Todd Walter, Chief Marketing Manager, National Instruments

“The Industrial Internet Consortium focuses on the coordination and establishment of enabling technologies to create an open and interoperable Industrial Internet.  Much of the business value of the Industrial Internet will come from the business systems integration, big data analytics, and automation systems reconfiguration and flexibility. A key prerequisite is that machines and devices are seamlessly connected, as these elements are the ultimate sources of the data that drives the Industrial Internet.  Time Sensitive Networking is a foundational technology that is enabling the integration of factory and IT systems.  The IIC is happy to co-host this year’s Deterministic Ethernet conference to promote collaboration, learning, and ultimate adoption of these new Ethernet capabilities.”

OPC Foundation: Thomas J. Burke, President & Executive Director, OPC Foundation

“The OPC Foundation is proud to be a sponsor of the Deterministic Ethernet Forum. This is a prestigious event that gets together all of the decision-makers and engineers across industries bringing together a wealth of talent and speakers to present and discuss key topics facing all industries from an international perspective. The power of this venue truly serves as a mechanism to educate and evangelize the best technology and solutions across the board to address major requirements and use cases of industrie 4.0, China 2025, the industrial Internet consortium, M2M, B2B, IIoT, and even just IoT. One of the key technologies of the OPC Foundation that we are working on is OPC UA over TSN which is well aligned to address the key requirements that will be presented at the Deterministic Ethernet Forum.”

Open Fog Consortium: Lynne Canavan, Executive Director, OpenFog Consortium

“Deterministic Ethernet networks are important to enabling fog computing, where sub-millisecond latency and reliable network connectivity are critical. The Guarantee of Service provided by Deterministic Ethernet ensures safe, efficient and effective operations for autonomous vehicles, factory automation, public transportation and other use cases that require fog computing approaches.  The OpenFog Consortium is pleased to participate in this important event with our member TTTech.”

Georg Kopetz, Co-founder and member of the executive board, TTTech

“TTTech is delighted to host the Deterministic Ethernet Forum together with our consortia partners. TSN is being adopted across a broad spectrum of applications, paving the way for the development of open and interoperable cross-industry Deterministic Ethernet solutions. It is important to bring the opinion leaders of leading global companies together to drive the evolution of Deterministic Ethernet.”
